Installation and setup

Install on your computer · Instructions checked 2026-10-14

Open the official stable release page and select the package for your operating system and processor. Use the release requirements rather than a development build.
On Windows, download the installer and double-click it to start installation. The standard installer is the beginner route.
On macOS, open the downloaded DMG and drag FreeCAD into Applications, then launch the app.
On Linux, use a package from your distribution or the official AppImage. For an AppImage, mark the downloaded file executable and run it, as explained in the official AppImage guide.
Once FreeCAD is installed, continue with the official Getting started guide for the first workspace and modeling steps.

Choose only the steps for your operating system; the platform paths are alternatives. Choose the current release’s OS and CPU package. Distribution packages may lag behind the latest stable release; the docs identify the older Ubuntu PPA as unmaintained. The documentation Download page retains old version/minimum-OS examples, so those numbers are not repeated here. The core desktop application is free. Optional addons, support, training and manufacturing services have separate terms.
