OpenBoard
WindowsmacOSLinux
Platform information checked 2026-10-23. OpenBoard is free GPL-3.0 software with the documented OpenSSL linking exception. It is an independent continuation of Open-Sankore/Uniboard, focused on a local teaching whiteboard. Stable 1.7.7 officially targets Windows 10+, macOS 12+ and Debian 12; other Linux builds are community packages. It can replace classroom handwriting/presentation tasks but is not OneNote cloud collaboration or a guarantee of every interactive-board driver's compatibility.

Installation and setup
Install on your computer · Instructions checked 2026-10-23
Open the project's Downloads wiki and select stable OpenBoard 1.7.7 for Windows 10+, macOS 12+ or Debian 12. Choose Intel/Apple Silicon correctly on macOS.
Install the provider-linked package; other Linux distribution packages are community maintained and may differ from the supported Debian build.
Start a test board, write a few strokes and add a copied document before connecting classroom hardware.
Save and reopen the test work, then test presentation and export on the actual projector/tablet setup. Keep source documents and board backups separate.
Provider-source review only; no candidate code, installer or APK was executed.
The basic Excalidraw browser whiteboard is free. Excalidraw Plus is a separate paid workspace with additional organization and collaboration features. Check its current billing selection and trial conditions before upgrading.
