Open the official ScreenToGif 2.43.2 release and choose a Windows setup or portable package matching your computer: x64, x86 or Arm64. This is the ScreenToGif release, distinct from the author’s newer N-Studio product.
Install the selected MSI using Windows Installer, or fully extract a portable ZIP and launch ScreenToGif. Check the provider’s current requirements: Windows 10/11 and .NET 9 Desktop Runtime or newer. If a runtime is requested, use the Microsoft download linked by the official README.
Select the screen recorder, webcam recorder or sketchboard, choose the area you want to capture, and record a brief test. Keep private notifications and credentials outside the selected region.
Review the captured frames in the editor, remove unwanted frames and export the required format. GIF/APNG export and video export use different settings; follow the provider’s export instructions if an external encoder is needed. Use a more suitable recorder for long sessions.
