Platform information checked 2026-10-22. VSCodium publishes free MIT-licensed editor binaries built from VS Code source, with community defaults and Microsoft telemetry disabled by the project. Basic local editing does not require a subscription or cloud account. It uses Open VSX by default; extension availability, licenses, telemetry and external-service costs are separate. Some proprietary Microsoft extensions do not support VSCodium, so do not assume marketplace or debugger parity. It replaces manual code-editing and extension-based development tasks in Cursor, not Cursor’s bundled AI agents, premium model allowance or complete hosted features.
