Set up your own server · Instructions checked 2026-10-14

1. Open the official installation wiki’s Docker section and use its docker-compose.yml example with the stable sentriz/gonic:latest image.
2. Replace the example paths with your music, podcasts, playlists and cache folders. Preserve the persistent /data mount and read-only music mount.
3. Start the service using the Compose instructions in the wiki. The audio-device settings in its example are only needed if you enable jukebox mode.
4. Open the server’s address on port 4747 to reach the administration interface, using the example’s 4747:80 port mapping.
5. Sign in with the initial administrator credentials documented in the wiki and change the password through the web interface immediately.
6. Use the administration interface to scan your library, then connect a compatible Subsonic client to the server to browse and listen.

The web interface is for administration; normal listening needs a compatible client. Some clients charge separately. Music comes from your own files and podcasts, not an included Spotify, Audible or Netflix catalog. Hosting and storage can cost extra. FFmpeg is required for optional transcoding, and mpv is required for optional jukebox playback. The wiki’s Compose command uses the older docker-compose spelling; follow the instructions appropriate to your installed Compose version.
